DAD
Now, at night I float.
An inch above my bed
Looking up at the ceiling which suddenly feels new
Because some time a long time ago your mom became a place.
For the time being
I think that’s fine

"A Mother"
JESS: Verfremdungseffekt. Defamilarization. Distancing Effect. And my favorite translation — Making Strange. Because it turns out 40 years isn't forever after all. I thought things would be different by now but dark times, dark times keep coming. And understanding grows at a snail’s pace, while the time given to us on earth never slows down. Except-- except here--- in the theater, where I’m still young, and about to fall in love for the first time...

Cold War Choir Practice

“I watched it bathing in the blaze like a little bird, preening, then folding, buckling at the beams, drifting under.”

Becoming Eve,

CHAVA:
Blessed art thou Blessed art thou
Oh lord our God Oh lord our God
ruler of the universe ruler of the universe
who gives the rooster who gives the rooster
understanding to understanding to
distinguish between day and night distinguish between day and night
Oh lord our God Oh lord our God
ruler of the universe ruler of the universe
who did not make me a gentile who did not make me a gentile
Blessed art thou Blessed art thou
Oh lord our God Oh lord our God
ruler of the universe ruler of the universe

"Cemetery Soup"
You can’t stop anything from dying. Maybe he could not see me in the kitchen where I was working with my hands, putting my work into a plan to meet him where he was. I guess that means that there can be all kinds of silence. But I guess that’s different than quiet. And I think, while being very young, that I will always be searching for quiet. Where I grew up, there is a really nice sound. My white noise is water hitting stone.

"The Magician"

"Something is opening in me.
I feel you.
I hold on to you.
I close my eyes.
I feel you rushing through the air!
Your spirit through my body.
I’m not frightened!
When I see myself, I see the world. I open my eyes.
As it is spoken." l

                                           Not Not Jane's

CHERYL: One of the greatest tragedies of my life is that after creating you, pushing you out, feeling so sure that we were one… we became two. It’s been so hard for me that you’ve never wanted to share.

JANE: All right well, so long as people are dumping on me—does anyone else have anything critical to add?

GEORGE: I guess just that… I’m not a big fan of the blouse?
